Job Designation

The Production Worker IV acts as a professional expert, while supporting a wide range of complex production tasks. Ensures the maintenance of a safe work environment with an ultimate goal of zero accidents.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of complex production tasks such as operates subassembly equipment, coating equipment, ovens, material handling equipment including hoists, cranes, tow motors, pallet trucks, and other miscellaneous  equipment
  • Performs troubleshooting while operating equipment, including performing and documenting limited preventative maintenance
  • Monitors, measures, and records quality assurance data including, but not limited to dimensions, weight, or other specific information
  • Orders production and non-production materials necessary to the normal operation of the facility
  • Tracks orders, utilizing appropriate equipment, moves material to enable the production process to flow efficiently and effectively
  • Follows specific quality criteria to maintain quality system requirements and assists in training less experienced staff
  • Observes safe work practices, maintains a safe and clean work environment and wears the appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
  • Fabricates, modifies, and repairs aerospace glass products, using variety of machines and tools, and provides technical advice to scientific and engineering staff on function, properties, and proposed design of products, applying knowledge of glass technology: Confers with scientific or engineering personnel to exchange information and suggest design modifications regarding proposed glass apparatus, such as distillation and high-vacuum systems.
  • Heats glass tubing until pliable, using gas torch, and shapes tubing to specified form, using hand tools, and manual pressure.
  • Performs finishing operations to fabricate glass product or section, using machines and equipment.
  • Measures products to verify dimensions, using optical scanner, micrometers, and calipers, and examines glass coloration for degree of internal stress, using polariscope, to determine annealing requirements.
  • Anneals products, using annealing oven.
  • Joins and seals subassemblies to assemble finished product, using gas torch, hand tools, and vacuum pump.
  • May operate special equipment to bond glass to metal, quartz, and ceramic materials.
  • May direct and train glass blowers.
  • May design fixtures for use in production of prototype glass products and prepare sketches for machine-shop personnel.
  • May requisition or recommend purchase of materials, tools, and equipment.
     

Job Specifications

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.
Certifications: Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field 
Years Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience equivalent or combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations
Skills:
•    Skilled in the use of hand tools including calipers, depth gages, micrometers, and other measuring equipment, and machinery
•    Ability to read various instructions      
•    Abe to solve problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents or procedures
•    Solid oral and written communication skills
•    Good attention to detail      
•    Proficient computer skills
