1st Shift

POSITION SUMMARY:

In general, the role of the Weld Tear-Down Quality Team Member holds responsibility for performing various tasks relating to the inspection and test status of production parts in Weld & Assembly and Press Group. In addition, they will perform process control activities as required to maintain positive process and product Quality. They have the authority and responsibility to start and stop production operations, use check fixtures, gauges, microscopes and other measuring equipment in determining the conformity of production parts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - SPECIFIC:

  • Perform all required weld tear-down requirements utilizing appropriate tools. (Plasma cutter, vice, pliers, torque wrench, push-out tester, thread gages, calipers, micrometers, microscopes, etc.)
  • Perform the evaluation of welds per required frequency to verify thickness and degree of fracture
  • Perform weld nut push out to determine > specified minimum strength
  • Determine welds / nugget acceptance criteria per part inspection check sheet requirement
  • Document all results on the applicable work order inspection check sheet and SPC data entry where required

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - SPECIFIC: DOCUMENT & PROCESS CONTROL

  • Awareness, working knowledge and compliance to the following procedures, work instructions, controlled postings and other job-specific information:
  • Push-Out Destructive Testing Work Instruction
  • Rejected Material & Product Containment Work Instructions
  • Product Identification & Traceability Work Instructions
  • Visual SPC Operation Work Instruction
  • Weld Tear-Down Process Flow Chart / Weld Tear-Down Tool Box Training
  • Beyond Minimum Customer Requirements Controlled Posting (Ford Customer Specifics)

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Good understanding of the manufacturing process and environment.
  3. Ability to multi-task.
  4. Basic computer skills
  5. Ability to communicate and work in a team-oriented environment.

Training in Paxit, LECO, Mig Welding, Acid Etch, SPC, and Continuous Improvement are preferred

MAJOR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Team members must be able to stand on concrete floor for the duration of work-shift, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, bend to the floor, and use arms and hands. The team member must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and repetitively lift 10 - 20 pounds to a height of 48 inches. Visual precision is needed for reading documents, machine dial gauges, precision measuring instruments, and possibly blueprints.

Basic Requirements of Leco are:

  1. Understand, perform, document and evaluate peel tests
  2. Understand document and evaluate push-out tests
  3. Thorough understanding of computers such as:
  • Excel(copy and paste, merging files)
  • Microsoft word
  • Microsoft outlook or email
  • SPC software if required

  1. Thorough working and safety knowledge of the weld teardown equipment such as:
  • Band saw
  • Plasma cutter
  • Belt sander
  • Vibratory etchers
  • Calipers
