Navy Maintenance Technician (SEA Coach )

Position Summary:
Life Cycle Engineering is currently recruiting Navy Maintenance Technicians/Subject Matter Experts with expertise in Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, or Combat Systems to become a qualified SEA Coach as part of our team in Apra Harbor, Guam. You will obtain your SEA Coach certification and provide over the shoulder technical support and engineering best practices guidance, as well as small group and work center level training, for various electrical trade skills and techniques to Fleet Maintenance Activity Sailors assigned to the two Submarine Tenders in Guam. This SEA Coach position is an "on the deckplate" opportunity for molding the Navy's Submarine Repair Technicians of the future. This work will start in summer of 2024 and will be conducted via 3-4 month rotational periods throughout the year.

Clearance Requirement:
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist Fleet Maintenance Activity personnel in planning, training, and execution of primarily Submarine Repairs at an intermediate maintenance activity level during 3 month rotational periods throughout the year.
  • Assist Maintenance Personnel in developing assessment and repair skills and techniques to assure first time quality repairs to forward deployed Naval Vessels. Assessment skill and maintenance technique training topics cover a wide range depending on sailor experience and repair complexity and may include:
    • Identification and documenting of system and/or equipment "as found" problems.
    • Identification of scope of work through use of historical repair documents and ship checks.
    • Basic to advanced tooling and test equipment usage and understanding of testing results.
    • Develop and provide on-the job training (OJT) based on observed trends in maintenance skills.
    • Assess Work Center tooling and test equipment for recommended upgrades to improve efficiency or throughput capacity.
    • Provide over the shoulder guidance during in progress work onboard Naval Units to enable Sailors to successfully complete all assigned tasks on an extremely wide range (trade specific) mechanical, structural, electrical or combat systems equipment and systems.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of mechanical, electrical, structural, or combat systems maintenance experience in the operation, repair, maintenance and assessment of US Naval vessel equipment within a public or private shipyard.
  • Extensive experience in Los Angeles Class and Virginia Class (VACL) submarine maintenance, repairs and modernization.
  • Thorough maintenance knowledge of the following systems and repairs of associated components:
    • Sea Coach Mechanical: Main Propulsion Turbines, Snorkel, Shafting, Main Sea Water, Aux Sea Water, Secondary Propulsion, High Pressure Air, Steering/Diving, SSTG Lube Oil, Trim, Drain, Condensate Auxiliary Steam
    • Sea Coach Electrical/Electronics: Electrical Power Generations (SSTG), Lighting Distribution and Fixtures, AC/DC Switchboards, Radar, Radio, ECM, Sonar, Navigation, Mast and Antenna
    • Sea Coach Structural: Superstructure and Fairwater, Pressure Hull, Non-Pressure Hull, Ballast, Tanks, Built-In, Internal Structural Bulkheads, Water Tight Hatches( Pressure Hull), Trucks and Enclosures, Platform, walking Flats, and Non Structural Bulkheads
    • Sea Coach Combat Systems: 6" and 3' Launcher, Vertical Launcher System, Sonar, Torpedo Tubes, Torpedo Ejection Pump, Weapon Handling
  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting / kneeling may be required.
  • Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
