Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking an Environmental Specialist with experience in environmental due diligence to research, develop, and manage National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects following a spectrum of federal agencies, including Housing and Urban Development, United States Department of Transportation, United States Department of Agriculture, and more. Fishbeck consultants are the face of the organization, building and maintaining meaningful business relationships with clients, the community, and regulatory agency employees.
Primary Functions
  • Create reports and other documents related to NEPA projects, including justifications for Categorical Exclusions and Environmental Assessments.
  • Assist environmental due diligence projects including standard or customized Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) consistent with ASTM standards.
  • Aide in conducting environmental assessments and investigations, collecting samples and data on noise, air quality, and other hazards.
  • Balance multiple projects staying within scope, budget, and/or schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on all deliverables.
  • Communicate with clients, federal agencies, staff members, and vendors.
  • Work collaboratively and across department and division lines with other environmental remediation and infrastructure engineering staff.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned by Team Leader.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Common office tasks involve sitting, standing, walking, using a personal computer, and communicating verbally. Most work is conducted indoors with occasional project site visits. Must be able to drive vehicle to project sites to conduct investigations and meet with clients. Visual acuity necessary to perform responsibilities. Accommodation may be made for some of the physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
Desired Education/Licensure
Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, geology, or related field.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • 3+ years of experience with NEPA projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of NEPA reports, assessments, permits, and other related documents.
  • Experience conducting Phase I and II ESAs following ASTM standards.
  • Working knowledge federal environmental regulations and requirements. Work with Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, or other states a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills associated with technical reports in the consulting industry.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver.
  • Organized, with attention to detail.
