Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications forExecutive Director for Student Success.

As a Division of Strategic Enrollment Management member, the Executive Director will provide strategic leadership and vision for University Division to enhance student success, retention, and graduation rates at the University of Southern Indiana. The Executive Director will lead a team of full-time staff, senior administrative assistants, graduate assistants, and undergraduate student employees in the Center for Exploring Majors, the four undergraduate advising centers, Academic Skills (tutoring and learning assistance), and Career Counseling.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, terminations, transfers, promotions, performance appraisals, and vacation/remote work schedules.

  • Oversee budgets and serve as fiscal agent for the division; prepare budget requests in response to Division needs and funding constraints.

  • Seek grant funding. When appropriate, oversee selected grant-funded programs in the Division and serve as grant fiscal agent as needed.

  • Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, academic deans, Admissions, Student Financial Assistance, New Student and Transitional Programs, the Registrar's Office, and Student Affairs units on issues integral to student success and retention.

  • Coordinate the training, course development, delivery, and assessment of UNIV 101 (FYE), a Core 39 requirement for all first-year students, for the entire campus community (60-70 sections annually) and teach one section each fall.

  • Represent the University Division at Provost's Council, Council of Department Chairs and Program Directors, the Executive Enrollment Management Council, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, and other student success initiatives. Chair the USI Administrative Appeals Committee.

  • Manage and report program-wide assessment and evaluation results that measure federal and state objectives, student learning outcomes, advisor delivery outcomes, course outcomes, and overall usage and effectiveness of services for all units within the University Division to the university and external stakeholders.

  • Work closely with the Sponsored Projects and Research Administration to monitor student retention and graduation rates.

  • Utilize predictive analytic tools to prioritize proactive interventions designed to impact student success and retention of first-year students.

  • Represent the division and institution by meeting with incoming students and parents during Orientation, attending academic conferences, and meeting with administrators from other universities as requested.

  • Develop, interpret, and administer academic policies and procedures for University Division and USI students.

  • Assist in designing and developing materials for programs intended to increase the persistence and retention of USI students.

  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in First Year Experience, retention, student success, academic advising, tutoring and learning assistance, and developmental education.

  • Acquire information and prepare various statistical reports for faculty and administration.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Master's degree and a minimum of five years administrative experience in academic support, academic advising, student success, or related area, teaching (and/or administration) at the college level, including budgeting and supervisory experience, with additional experience working with CRM and predictive analytics software is required.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

  • Previous management or supervisory experience is required.

  • Thorough understanding of academic advising and student support services.

  • Experience working with diverse populations of students, peers, and the public.

  • Experience and demonstrated leadership in using an equity lens to address systemic barriers to student success through initiatives, policies, and/or practices.

  • Demonstrated experiences in working with students, faculty, department staff, and/or campus administrators across many divisions of higher education.

  • Ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines.

  • Ability to successfully prioritize, coordinate and/or facilitate multiple projects and deadlines independently or with limited supervision.

  • Proven ability to manage conflict.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Terminal degree preferred.

  • Familiarity with computerized databases and statistical packages is desired.

  • Understanding of pedagogy and cognition theory as a base for program design and student support is preferred.

  • Previous staff training and presentation skills preferred.

About the Department

The mission of University Division is to facilitate USI students' academic success by helping students build a solid foundation for their college careers. University Division coordinates a variety of academic programs and services, including academic support services for all USI students and academic advising for first year students, including students without a declared major. The Division comprises Academic Skills, Career Counseling, the Center for Exploring Majors, Student Support Services, and the Undergraduate Advising Centers.
