Job Description

TSC's Innovation & Product Cell (IPC) is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer in Huntsville, AL with an educational and/or industry focus on the design of embedded, real-time firmware on FPGAs, including signal processing, high-speed interfaces, and general digital control. In this role, the candidate will develop real-time embedded firmware in support of new radar and electronic warfare technology.

Responsibilities:

This position requires a flexible individual with experience in rapid, new product development. TSC's IPC team is chartered with developing new products by leveraging technology across TSC. This team is responsible for rapid development, demonstration, and initial product rollout. This position requires an individual familiar with all phases of product development and deployment including changing requirements, hardware, software, and mechanical integration dependencies, field testing, and configuration management. The individual in this position needs to design and implement modular firmware that supports a product line with different features and at different levels of maturity.

  • Design, implement, model, and test FPGA-based firmware using Verilog, VHDL, and HLS.
  • Support all phases of detailed system and subsystem development activities for FPGA applications, including upfront analysis, prototyping, end-item development, and evaluation in laboratory and field test environments.
  • Modularize components for reuse across multiple FPGA-based projects.
  • Sustain multiple related products through their product lifecycles.
  • Work within a multi-discipline team of systems, hardware, mechanical, software, and firmware engineers to build complete solutions and products.
  • Hands-on lab testing of electronics hardware - Experienced with test equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers) and software debugging tools (JTAG, ICE, GDB).
  • Analysis of measured data from laboratory and/or field testing. Comparison of expected performance or truth data to actual measured performance.
  • Develop and verify FPGA designs using the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) or similar tools.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams locally and across physical locations.
  • Work with product owners to define and implement iterative releases to meet customer deliverables.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the industry.
  • Experience with the following areas is required:
    • Xilinx FPGA family, IP cores, and tools
    • SERDES, AXI4, PCIe3, DDR4, GigE or other high-speed interfaces
    • I2C, SPI, RS-232, GPIO, and other standard control interfaces
    • FFTs, digital filters, mixers, DDCs, and other signal-processing functions
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Possess excellent organizational and communications skills.
  • Able to prioritize work and maximize productivity.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with radar, SIGINT, and/or electronic warfare product development.
  • Experience implementing security measures in support of anti-tamper.
  • Experience with configuration and release management, continuous integration, and regression testing.
  • Experience with physical implementation flows, such as synthesis, floor-planning, design constraints, CTS, ICC, design/timing convergence, and reliability flows.
  • Experience in Firmware/Software design and implementation with Linux.
  • Familiar with RF signal chains (i.e., mixing, filtering, up/down conversion, etc.).
