Description
As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking a Custodial Lead who will promote Marian University's Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by keeping the university buildings and grounds, clean, neat, and in a safe manner.

General Statement of Job:
Divides time and assists other custodial employees in providing custodial services to include all cleaning activities. Performs cleaning duties in the facility buildings to keep areas in clean and orderly condition. Cleaning duties are completed by following established schedules and cleaning frequencies; and by using prescribed work techniques, procedures, equipment, and materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Assists staff to ensure highest standards of cleanliness and service
  • Divides time between leading the team as well as performing all custodial cleaning activities in areas to include but not limited to all campus facilities.
  • Clean assigned spaces
  • Responds to emergency custodial issues.
  • Takes account of custodial supplies as well as laundry.
  • Observes as well as conveys and communicates to the team, safety standards and practices.
  • Dust and wet mop/vacuum all non-carpeted floors and stairwells.
  • Vacuum carpets daily and upholstered furniture periodically.
  • Clean restrooms, floors, spot clean carpeted floors, fixtures, chrome, glass, walls, restock paper and soap supplies, and empty trash receptacles.
  • Properly remove and dispose of all trash.
  • Spot clean walls, wash walls as assigned.
  • Wash, damp wipe, or spot clean desks, furniture, window ledges, lockers, and shelving as needed, or assigned.
  • Equipment use in restrooms and other hard surface floors as needed.
  • High dust above shoulder height, also dust vent covers.
  • Clean chalk board, whiteboards, and erasers.
  • Clean internal glass, entrance doors and internal doors.
  • Clean fixtures in labs and other areas.
  • Clean and polish chrome.
  • Clean elevators and elevator tracks.
  • Report needed repairs to building and equipment to manager or supervisor.
  • Snow removal/salting at entry ways.
  • Attend all department training sessions.
  • Employee MUST follow all University and departmental rules, regulations/policies, and procedures.
  • Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in a safe manner
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by your manager.

  • Demonstrated accuracy, thoroughness and quality of work.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
