Georgia-Pacific Newington Gypsum operations is seeking to hire a Safety Specialist. This is an hourly position that will report to the Manager of Safety & Health at the Newington NH site and support operations. Specifically, this position would assist in general safety compliance, hazard analysis & risk assessment, development of risk reduction controls, emergency response, machine safeguarding, and other safety compliance standards. The Portsmouth & surrounding seacoast area offers year-round exceptional outdoor recreation and social activities. The cities of Portland, ME and Boston, MA are a short car ride to the north and south respectively. New York City is only an hour's flight away if you want to catch a Broadway show or two over a weekend getaway.


What You Will Do

  • Review, understand and utilize the PBM Guiding Principles and Framework to conduct business at GP
  • Learn to perform Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) and evaluate risk in existing and future equipment, processes, and operations
  • Work with the Safety Manager to review risk assessments and develop actionable strategies and effective metrics to monitor progress and performance
  • Work with the sites' Compliance System Owners (CSOs) to assist in the development and implementation of fundamental safety programs. Fundamental programs include, but are not limited to Fall Protection, Confined Space, Emergency Response, Lock Tag Verify, Hazard Communication, Incident Investigation, Mobile Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment, and others
  • Work with all aspects of Safety & Health programs, including continuous improvement, compliance program ownership and subject matter expertise
  • Provide a visible safety presence in the field with operations, maintenance, and contractor work groups
  • Develop and delivery of required regulatory training and orientation
  • Communicate with both internal external partners
  • Manage multiple projects/initiatives at once, prioritizing appropriately
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Microsoft SharePoint
  • Work a flexible schedule to provide safety guidance to night shifts
  • Travel less than 10% of your time

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Safety Engineering or other safety related field, OR three (3) or more years working experience in a safety & health, engineering, or leadership role
  • Safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial facility


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience working in a Safety & Health role in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification
  • Certification in Safety or a Safety Related Field
  • Experience with OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, NFPA Codes, and/or ANSI
  • Experience and knowledge in recognizing and mitigating hazards
  • Experience with significant contributions to facility safety programs (committees, specialized groups, etc.)
  • Experience establishing sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
